In 1946, the Club obtained the property known as the Point Comfort Hotel, which was located across the road across from the clubhouse property. This dilapidated building was torn down to make a much needed parking area.
Then, on September 9, 1953, the "Boatyard" (now known as the North Point) was purchased from Mabel K. Allen. It had been a commercial boatyard, and the intention was to rent it to someone who would continue to operate it and to retain the land at the water's edge south of the boatyard for car parking and boat launching. Farell and Bachman (Farbach, Inc.) Chelsea Marina Service leased the boatyard from 1958 to 1961. After several tries at renovating the yard, CYC (Chelsea Yacht Club) slowly phased out the marina operation. By 1966 the Club decided to use the North Point as a dry sailing area and also to locate storage, bath, and locker facilities there as well. Therefore, old buildings were taken down or removed, and a new facility was added to house some of the planned amenities.
The DeRoosa property (two houses on the northeast corner of Front and Bank Streets) was purchased in 1966, and the houses were torn down to increase the parking area.
In 1978, Commodore Sal Cerniglia added the Ackerman house, the house nearest our gate, to be steward's quarters. J.S. Ackerman had been our steward in 1930.
