Youth Sailing Program |
|
The Chelsea Yacht Club is making preparations for its Youth Sailing Program for those ten years and older, to be held June 28 – July 16, 2010 and July 26- Aug 13, 2010. The program ends with a fun day of racing and a family BBQ on August 14, 2010. This year an additional program will be held for Chelsea’s younger sailors, ages 6-9. This will be in the form of two-half day programs. The children ages 6-8 will have a morning program from 9AM-noon and the older children, ages 9-12, will be held from 1PM-4PM. This new program is designed to give an introduction to sailing to the new younger sailors. This new program will take place during the week of July 19 – July 24, 2010. The focus of Youth Sail is on children between the ages of 10 and 18 who want to learn or improve their sailing skills. Its goals are to foster a life-long learning experience that will continue to encourage growth in the sport of sailing, develop self-confidence, encourage teamwork, and promote good sportsmanship. The program bolsters children’s water safety skills, basic to advanced boat handling and racing skills, and seamanship. The primary objective is to enhance individual skills and knowledge of sailing through a structured program in a safe environment combined with fostering a love of the sport of sailing. Our counselors are US Sailing-certified instructors and have taken both first aid and CPR. Registration will begin with our Annual Ice Cream Social on February 28 from 2-5PM. Returning sailors and siblings should register before March 6 to obtain a slot preference. CYC family members will be given slot preferences until March 15. Open registration begins on March 16. First-time sailors are required to sign up for two consecutive weeks.
