For 2022 Chelsea Yacht Club is offering an expanded Adult Sailing Program with various courses and seminars offered throughout the season and year round. Our instructors are US Sailing Certified, certified in both first aid and CPR and carry at least a NASBLA Boating Certification and/or a USCG Captain’s License.
We kick off the season with a learn-to-sail course in May, followed by additional courses in July and September. The learn-to-sail courses will be held on Friday night and all day Saturday for two consecutive weekends. The courses are open to adult beginning sailors as well as more experienced sailors. This 20-hour class covers:
The course will use the Basic Keelboat textbook published by the United States Sailing Association. The class will be taught primarily on the water aboard keelboats between 18 and 27 feet length overall. CYC will provide a keelboat which meets all USCG safety and equipment requirements, or you may provide your own sailboat2 for a discount. Students will practice their on-the-water skills to gain confidence in operating their vessels. This course has a 4:1 student to instructor ratio.
$500/Person. 1
CYC Members and immediate family receive a $200/person discount.
In the event that there is not enough wind during the normal scheduling of the course to complete the necessary skills, we will offer a make-up day on the Sunday of the second weekend.
A US Sailing-Certified instructor will provide custom lessons for you on one of our boats or on your own sailboat2 in this 3-hour semi-private lesson. These lessons will be specifically tailored to the students’ individual needs and goals and may cover topics such as:
$200/Lesson, minimum 2 participants, maximum 4.
$50 for each additional participant over 2.
Courses offered by appointment.3
1 Included in this amount is a required materials fee of $20 for the US Sailing Basic Keelboat textbook. There is an additional $50 discount for those who supply their own sailboat. Payment of a $100 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registration. The balance must be paid 2 weeks before the date of the first class.
2 If you wish to use your own sailboat, it is your responsibility to ensure the boat meets US Coast Guard Minimum Equipment Requirements for Recreational Vessels outlined on the pdf available here. The instructor will determine whether or not the boat is fit for the instruction requested.
